First portrait in My namaste series! Gene has been a follower and a friend of mine for years. His personality is wholesome, thoughtful, and gentle. His interests include 80s music, his Christian religion, and having meaningful conversation with people that he may not necessarily agree with but still take the time to try to learn more from. I feel like Gene is content being a student and trying to learn as much as he can. I chose to do a traditional portrait by choosing pencil, charcoal, and a little bit of ink. I think there is a humbleness to the style of art that resonates well with Gene. I created his hair using word art with the words including ones that he’s friends with used to describe him, as well as how I would use to describe him after reading many of his posts, and comments in the past.

Michael began his art career in high school, when his art became his way of communicating and expressing himself to other people. He received an art scholarship while in high school to attend Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia, where he was able to participate in college level drawing classes. His specialty was portrait work, although he also did some sculpture. He took a quick break from art in 2001 and joined the army, where he became a combat medic.
